Sergio Bustamante by Jarrod Ponce

Sergio Bustamante was born in Culiacan Sinaloa, Mexico but soon moved to Guadalajara where around 1966 he started making paper mache sculptures. During the same year he showed some of his first works with the Misrachi gallery from Mexico city. In 1975 he started a group called the   "Family Workshop Studio" with the help of a few other artisits. even with his talent using paper mache he starts creating sculptures of many other mediums during the late 1970's. These other methods of sculpture included wood, glass, jewlery and assorted metals. During the 1980s he established permanant places in galleries acroos the united states and mexico. He draws his inspiration from his childhood imaginations and his home country of mexico enstiling his pieces with emotion and his own personality. One of my favorite of his paper mache sculptures is his zebra trophy for its powerful lines and realism.
