Michelangelo by Benjamin Pico

Whereas he is not sculptor who is famous for using clay he is an influential figure in the realm of sculpting and art in general. I also chose him because he is one of my all time favorite artists and an inspiring character in the artistic part of my life. Of Italian ancestry, Michelangelo was born in Tuscany and lived in the time or the renaissance. I have seen a few of his works in person, such as David and Pieta, and what really strikes me is his attention to detail and the brilliance of him being able to take a rock and turn into something more than life-like. For my own project I had to approach it a different way, whereas Michelangelo made his sculptures look realistic, I had to make a creature that would be obviously unrealistic. So it was necessary to create that spin to project my piece to portray that unreal, imaginary world from which it came from while making it come from a place of perverted realism. Where a creature can look real yet be from somewhere else. Almost as if touching that spiritual sense, which is something I really enjoy in Michelangelo's works is that he is so in tune with the God and incorporates him into his works which promotes the idea of doing works for God which we should all strive to do.

  2. An excellent choice choosing Michaelangelo. He is one of my most favorite artists. I didn't recall much of his work regarding sculpture since he is known more for his paintings i thought.
